12.3. Marking of tires

Designation 195/55 R16 88V (185/60 R15, 175/65 R14) is deciphered as follows:
195 (185, 175) – width of the tire, mm;
55 (60, 65) – height relation to width of a profile, %;
R — the radial tire;
16 (15, 14) – diameter of a disk in inches;
88 – a loading capacity index (the permissible load — MAX LOAD 560 kg is sometimes specified);
V \a speed index (O – 160 km/h; S – 180 km/h; T – 190 km/h; H – 210 km/h; V – 240 km/h; ZR — over 240 km/h).

In addition the following designations can be applied on the tire:
DOT ND RB 2MM2 1207 (DOT — compliance to requirements of DOT; ND — code designation of the manufacturer; RB — the tire size; 2MM2 – tire type; 1207 – date of production, in this case the 12th week 2007);
RADIAL — the radial tire;
EXTRA LOAD — the increased durability;
TUBELESS — tubeless (TUBETYPE — chamber) the tire;
EXTERIER/OUTSIDE (INTERIER/INSIDE) – the outer (internal) side of the tire;
TREADWEAR 360 – a class of wear resistance of a protector;
TRACTION — a class of coupling properties;
TEMPERATURE A — a temperature class of the tire (the most admissible temperature of heating).
