9.9.2. Replacement of brake shoes of the brake mechanism of a back wheel

Minimum admissible thickness of frictional overlays of brake shoes of the brake mechanism of a back wheel makes 1,0 mm.

Note
It is difficult to measure thickness of completely worn-out overlay of a brake shoe with sufficient degree of accuracy. Therefore measure the general thickness of a block and subtract the block basis thickness (2,0 mm) from the received value.

Replace blocks in the following cases:
– thickness of frictional slips is less than admissible value;
– the surface of slips is greasy;
– the frictional slip is unsteadily connected to the basis;
– slips have deep furrows and chips.

Preventions
Do not apply gasoline, diesel fuel or any other mineral solvents to cleaning of brakes.
Replace blocks at the same time in brake mechanisms of both back wheels.

It will be required to you: a key for nuts of wheels, passatizh with thin sponges, the screw-driver with a flat edge, sliding passatizh with fixing.
1. Include the I transfer and establish an emphasis under forward wheels.
2. Check that the lever of the parking brake was lowered against the stop down (the car is stirred up).
3. Install the car on a support and remove a wheel from the relevant party.
4. If the level of brake fluid is in a tank of the main brake cylinder on a tag of "MAX" or approaches her, pump out a part of liquid from a tank. Otherwise when replacing blocks it can be splashed out.
5. Remove the brake drum (see. "Removal and installation of the brake drum").
6. Remove back fastening of a spring emphasis of the regulator of gaps of brake shoes, having picked up it the screw-driver.
7. Similarly remove forward fastening of a spring emphasis …
8. … also remove a spring emphasis from an expansion level.
9. Wrap a gear nut of the regulator of a gap against the stop, rotating it clockwise.
10. Take away a forward block a little back and remove an expansion level assembled with the gap regulator.
11. Having hooked the screw-driver, unhook passatizham from a back block the unbent end of the top coupling spring, unhook its second end from a forward block …
12. … also remove a spring.
13. Similarly remove the lower coupling spring.
14. Turn down and remove a clamping bracket of a front brake shoe, having pulled it on themselves.
15. Take out from an opening in a brake board a rack of a clamping bracket …
16. … also remove a front brake shoe.
17. Remove a clamping bracket of a back brake shoe.
18. Move a tip of the extender of a back cable in a groove of the razzhimny lever back so that it coincided with a cut in the lever …
19. … disconnect a cable tip from the razzhimny lever and remove a back brake shoe.

Prevention
Right after removal of blocks fix pistons of the working cylinder in any available way (for example, pull together with a rubber plait or connect by a wire) not to allow pushing out of pistons from cylinders.

20. Clear of pollution and examine details of the brake mechanism (fig. 9.6). Replace the deformed or strongly corroded details. Replace the springs which are strongly stretched, lost elasticity and bent.

Useful tips
At each dismantling of the brake mechanism replace clamping brackets new.
We recommend to replace when replacing brake shoes expansion levels assembled with regulators of gaps if they began to korrodirovat as at further operation corrosion can cause failure of regulators of gaps.

Notes
Details of the regulator of gaps of the left brake mechanism are not interchanged with the corresponding details of the right brake mechanism — do not mix them!
Lobby 1 (see fig. 9.6) and back 4 blocks of the back brake mechanism different in a design (the lever of the parking brake is attached to a back block by means of a rivet axis razzhimny, and the frictional overlay of a forward block has the smaller length, but big thickness, than at a back block). In addition back brake shoes differ as left and right.

21. About a brake board apply refractory lubricant for brake mechanisms on places of friction of forward and back brake shoes.
22. Exempt pistons of the working cylinder from the fixing adaptation, squeeze sliding passatizha pistons of the working cylinder and establish brake shoes as it should be, the return to removal.

Prevention
Consider that at an utaplivaniye of pistons in the cylinder the level of brake fluid in a tank of the main brake cylinder increases. If necessary pump out liquid.

23. Install the brake drum (see. "Removal and installation of the brake drum").
24. Adjust a gap between brake shoes and a drum, having pressed 10–15 times a brake pedal. By each pressing the click of the regulator has to be heard. If clicks stopped, the gap is established.
25. Establish into place a wheel. Check ease of its rotation.
26. Similarly replace brake shoes of the brake mechanism of other wheel.
27. After installation of brake shoes adjust the parking brake system (see. "Adjustment of the drive of the parking brake").
