6.3.1. Features of a design

Drives of forward wheels (fig. 6.6) consist of the external 1 and internal 6 hinges of equal angular speeds (HEAS) connected by shaft 5. The external hinge provides a possibility only of angular movements of the connected shaft. The internal hinge in addition to angular provides axial shifts of shaft at turn of forward wheels and work of a suspension bracket.

The external Birfild hinge consists of the case, a separator, a holder and six balls. In the case of the hinge and in a holder flutes for placement of balls are executed. Flutes in the longitudinal plane are executed on radius that provides the required angle of rotation of the external hinge. The Shlitsevy tip of the case of the external hinge is established in a nave of a forward wheel and attached to it by a bolt.
The holder of the external hinge is established on vents of a shaft 5 and recorded on a shaft by a lock ring.
The internal Tripod hinge consists of the case and three rollers on the needle bearings which are put on pins of a three-spiked nave. In the case of the hinge grooves for rollers are executed. The three-spiked nave is recorded on a shaft by a lock ring, rollers allow a nave to move in hinge case grooves in the axial direction thanks to what the drive can be extended or be shortened for compensation of mutual movements of a suspension bracket and the power unit. The Shlitsevy tip of the case of the internal hinge of the drive and the left forward wheel is fixed in a semi-axial gear wheel of differential by a spring lock ring 9, and the shlitsevy tip of the case of the internal hinge of the drive of the right forward wheel is established in a semi-axial gear wheel without fixing as the case is fixed from axial movement by an intermediate support on the engine, which bearing 7 напрессован on the intermediate shaft 8 executed for a single whole with the case of the internal hinge.
Balls of one sorting group are installed in the external hinge. All details of the hinge are selectively picked up to each other therefore it is impossible to repair the hinge replacement of separate details. In spare parts deliver only the hinge assembled, and also small ремкомплект, including lock ring, a cover, collars of fastening of a cover and in certain cases lubricant.
The internal hinge is delivered in spare parts in the form of two remkomplekt: the big, including all details hinge, and the external hinge small, similar to a remkomplekt.
Special lubricant with a molybdenum disulfide is applied to lubricant of hinges (a domestic analog — SHRUS-4). Cavities of all hinges are protected from hit of road dirt and water by the rubber corrugated covers 3 fixed on cases of hinges and on shaft of drives respectively big 2 and small 4 collars.
For ensuring stability of the car and improvement of its controllability at the movement with a high speed shaft of drives of the left and right wheel are executed identical length, and feature of configuration of a motor compartment of the car with a cross arrangement of the power unit (the main transfer is displaced rather longitudinal axis of the car to the left) is compensated by installation of the intermediate shaft made for a single whole with the case of the internal hinge of the drive of the right forward wheel. Therefore drives of the right and left wheel are not interchanged. Hinges of equal angular speeds of both drives are identical.

Good advice
Hinges of drives are very durable, their settlement resource is almost equal to a car resource. However in operation they are changed or repaired quite often because of damage of protective covers. Such work quite expensive and labor-consuming. Seriously to save, regularly check a condition of protective covers of hinges and immediately replace them at the slightest damages. If water or dust gets to the hinge through the damaged cover, it will fail through several hundreds of kilometers of a run. The tight hinge wears out extremely slowly.
