11.14.1. Features of a design

The system of passive safety (SRS) of the Ford Fusion car unites in a complex frontal safety cushions for the driver and the passenger on a front seat and seat belts for the driver and all passengers. Inertial seat belts for the driver and the forward passenger are equipped by the pyrotechnic prednatyazhitel installed in locks of belts. For passengers on a back seat three-point inertial belts are provided. By request the side safety cushions located in backs of front seats can be established.

Prevention
Safety cushions do not replace seat belts. Moreover, at the movement of the car the driver and the forward passenger have to be surely fastened by belts as in case of the road accident the worked safety cushion itself can put to the person who is not fastened by a belt a severe injury.

SRS log in:
– the module of a safety cushion of the driver located in a nave of a steering wheel and consisting of the put cover of a pillow and a gas generator;
– the module of a safety cushion of the forward passenger which is in the dashboard from the passenger and consisting of the put cover of a pillow and a gas generator;
– the modules of side safety cushions of the driver and forward passenger (establish depending on a car complete set) located in external side parts of backs of front seats and consisting of the put cover of a pillow and a gas generator;
– the electronic control unit established under facing of a tunnel of a floor and the managing director of system;
– seat belts;
– prednatyazhitel of forward belts (are built in in locks of forward belts).
Force and the direction of blow at the road accident are determined by the electronic control unit (ECU) of system of passive safety by two electronic accelerometers (blow sensors) installed on body thresholds under their facings. To a signal of accelerometers the control unit activates safety cushions software.
At front blow of a certain force of EBU receives a signal from accelerometers and, issuing the command for pyrotechnic elements of prednatyazhitel, before activation of safety cushions increases a tension of belts. Provide to Prednatyazhiteli timely response to emergency delay of the car, attracting the driver and the forward passenger to seatbacks, and also exclude further movement them on inertia and getting injured from the worked safety cushion forward.

Note
The mechanism of a prednatyazhitel of a seat belt is always put in action earlier, than a safety cushion.

It is also possible to carry the head restraints established on seatbacks of the driver and forward passenger to additional elements of system of passive safety. Head restraints prevent injury of cervical vertebras of the people sitting in the car at strong blow behind and at operation of safety cushions.
Below removal and installation of a safety cushion of the driver, belts and the control unit of a security system as the safety cushion of the driver needs to be removed for the works connected with steering repair are described. Side safety cushions should be dismantled only at the car repair shops having specially prepared personnel. Adjustment of provision of head restraints and their removal are described in section 1 "The car device" (see. "Adjustment of provision of front seats").
