Details of a starter are shown in fig. 10.3. Before dismantling of a starter be convinced of its malfunction by the following simple checks.

1. By means of the screw-driver check ease of movement of the coupling of the drive along a shaft.	2. Turn a drive gear wheel. The gear wheel has to be turned easily concerning a coupling nave in the direction of rotation of an anchor and should not be turned in an opposite direction.

3. Connect wires for "prikurivaniye" the minus plug of the rechargeable battery removed from the car to the starter case. Connect the second wire one end to the plus plug of the rechargeable battery, and another — to a conclusion of the operating wire of the traction relay. If the traction relay is serviceable, then the click will sound and the drive coupling will start. Otherwise the traction relay is faulty.

4. Disconnect a wire from the operating conclusion of the traction relay and connect to the lower contact bolt of the traction relay. The anchor of a starter has to begin to rotate with a frequency more than 6000 min.-1. Otherwise repair a starter.

It will be required to you: keys "on 10", "on 13", a face key of TORX T25, the screw-driver with flat and crosswise edges, passatizh, the hammer.

1. Turn off a nut of the lower contact bolt of the traction relay …	2. … also disconnect the tire from a contact bolt of the traction relay.

3. Turn out three screws of fastening of the traction relay to a starter cover from the drive...	4. … also remove the traction relay, having disconnected an anchor from the drive lever.

5. Take an anchor and a returnable spring from the case of the traction relay.	6. Turn out two screws of fastening of a cover of the bearing …

7. … uncover …	8. … and sealing ring.

9. Remove a lock ring …	10. … and persistent washer.

11. Turn out two bolts of fastening of a cover from a collector …	12. … also uncover.

13. Remove the brush holder assembled with cases of brushes.	14. If necessary remove cases of brushes and a spring.

15. Uncover the party of the drive and take a rotor from the starter case.

16. Remove a rubber sealant …	17. … also take the drive assembled with the lever from a cover.

18. Remove the drive lever.	19. Shift a restrictive ring on a shaft of a planetary reducer …

20. … also remove a lock ring, having hooked it the screw-driver.

21. Remove a restrictive ring …

22. … and the drive from a shaft of a planetary reducer.	23. Examine the brush holder. Check height of a vystupaniye of brushes in the brush holder. Check by means of an ohmmeter the isolated cases for short circuit with the case. Resistance has to strive for infinity.

24. On vents and pins of a shaft of an anchor there should not be damages (a zaboina and the tease). The collector of an anchor should not have obgoraniye traces. Eliminate an insignificant obgoraniye with the rags moistened in gasoline and a fine-grained emery paper. By means of an ohmmeter check an anchor winding for short circuit. Resistance has to strive for infinity.

25. Check whether the anchor of the traction relay of a starter easily moves, whether contact bolts a contact plate become isolated (by means of an ohmmeter).

26. Check the drive. Teeths of a gear wheel of the drive should not have considerable wear. The gear wheel has to be turned easily concerning a coupling nave in the direction of rotation of an anchor and should not be turned in an opposite direction. If teeths of a gear wheel are worn-out or damaged or the gear wheel is turned in both directions, replace the drive.

27. On the lever of the drive of a starter there should not be cracks and traces of considerable wear of grooves of forks.

Collect a starter in the sequence, the return dismantling, taking into account the following features.

1. Grease a shlitsevy surface of a shaft of an anchor with siliceous lubricant.

Prevention In use the coupling of the drive does not need to be greased. However it is necessary to clear it of dirt. Do not apply to cleaning of the drive of means which can wash up the lubricant put in its coupling.

2. Oil engine bearings (plugs) in starter covers.

3. For installation of a restrictive ring use sliding passatizha.	4. At installation of the brush holder on an anchor part brushes and record a mandrel (for example, a face head from tool kit).

5. Before installation of the traction relay apply on the surface of the relay contacting to a starter cover from the drive, a thin layer of silicone sealant.
